We are an NHS commissioned service providing diagnosis and treatment for ADHD in adults. At present, our service is available to patients registered with a GP in the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin ICB area.
This page explains how to access an ADHD assessment via the standard NHS referral pathway. While the process is different from the Right to Choose / Patient Choice route, the care you receive is the same: all assessments and treatments are delivered by qualified clinicians in line with NHS standards and NICE guidelines.
If you feel you may be experiencing ADHD symptoms that are affecting your daily life, your first step is to book an appointment with your GP. They should discuss your concerns, consider other possible explanations, and decide whether an ADHD assessment may be beneficial.
For more information on ADHD and its common symptoms, you may find our ADHD resources helpful.
If your GP agrees that an ADHD assessment may be beneficial, they can refer you to an NHS commissioned provider. Once your referral is accepted, you will be placed on the provider's waiting list for a diagnostic assessment.
In most cases, you will be referred to your local commissioned service. However, if you have a preference for a particular provider - such as MHWS - you can ask your GP to consider this under your Right to Choose.
Different providers have their own processes and with MHWS : when an appointment becomes available, we will contact you to arrange your assessment. For details on what to expect at your ADHD assessment, please see What to Expect at an ADHD Assessment.
In regard to MHWS this service is available to:
If you do not meet this eligibility, we would still recommend that you begin by talking with your GP, if you are keen to use our services then we encourage you to check our website as our NHS contracts do change from time-to-time.
