Sabeen Wasi Mohamad

As a youngster, I was always interested in human behaviour and relationships.  I was the youngest in my family and observed various expectations, demands and pressures in my school and family life.   This enthused me in taking Psychology for my bachelor’s degree.  The study further developed my interest in this subject and in 1998, I qualified with a master’s in clinical psychology in Karachi, Pakistan. I worked as a Clinical Psychologist at a Psychology programme locally. In 1999 I got married and moved to UK.

After my move to the UK, I initially worked in Victim Support for 3 years.  However, my passion has always been working with mental health.  I trained and qualified as a Relate counsellor and worked for Relate for a year.  I then got an opportunity within NHS to be a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.  I gained valuable experience working with a busy psychological therapies team for around 10 years. Over the last couple of years, I developed my private practise and now I work full time for Mental Health and Well Being Services as the lead psychotherapist.   I have worked with clients suffering from a range of mild, moderate to complex issues of mental health including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, stress & trauma, relationship difficulties and phobias.

I believe that the most vital component in therapy is the therapeutic relationship.  Many of us could have difficulties with attachment issues, environmental issues, social expectations trust or could have a genetic predisposition for developing mental health issues.  I like to think that my passion is in working with people: in developing an understanding of their issues and to help them achieve a better and clearer strategy to empower them to deal with their issues and to lead a more balanced life.

I became a CBT therapist in 2009 and since then I have also gained knowledge of other therapeutic approaches such as Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing for trauma.

My husband and I share the passion of working with mental illness and to erase the stigma of mental illness. We would like to provide a holistic service to our clients to improve the quality of their lives not just mentally but also physically.  I believe this service will give us a huge opportunity to work and help with a wide range of conditions and be able to make some difference in lives of our clients and in the process also learn from them.
